Introductory Programs

Row-D-O

+

If you have never rowed before, CFRRC offers an introductory course, “Row-D-O,” to explain the basics of rowing. Upon completion, the next step is to sign up for our Learn to Row class for further teaching of basic form and technique.

Row-D-O is a great way to experience rowing on the water.  The class starts with an introduction to the rowing machine to learn the basic stroke mechanics and then attendees row on the water in an 8-seat boat. Class time is about is approximately 90 minutes. We offer several different time slots in the morning with a limit of four students per group. Cost is $60 per seat.

Row-D-O is a brief introduction to rowing and anyone wanting to continue would participate in our more intensive Learn To Row Program as a next step. Rowing experience is not required. The class itself is not designed to be physically strenuous, however you must have a reasonable level of fitness to participate. Students MUST be able to swim or tread water for 20 minutes, lift 40 pounds overhead (to help carry the boat), and perform a full squat to get in and out of the boat.

Rowing is a team sport. There MUST be 8 rowers in the boat, so signing up to participate requires your full commitment to show up on time and participate. There will be NO REFUNDS for cancellations. If you register and are then unable to attend for any reason, please contact us at info@CapeFearRiverRowingClub.org so that we can find a substitute for your seat.

Learn to Row (LTR)

+

If you have never rowed before, you must take our Learn to Row (LTR) class before joining the club. LTR introduces you to the proper technique for sweep rowing (one oar per person). Classes consist of one weeknight afternoon session learning rowing technique on the ergometer (rowing machine), plus two sessions on weekend mornings. Class size is limited to eight for safety and quality of instruction. Classes are conducted at the club’s boathouse and dock located at the Wilmington Marine Center, 3410 River Road, Wilmington, NC 28412. Rowing is a team sport. Signing up to participate requires your full commitment to show up on time and participate.

The class itself is not designed to be physically strenuous, however you must have a reasonable level of fitness to participate. Students must be able to swim or tread water for 20 minutes, perform a full squat (to get in and out of the boat), and help carry the boat overhead (about 40 pounds).

Cost for the LTR program is $325. The session fee includes one month of coached practices with other novice rowers after graduation. The three class sessions noted above are mandatory. You are not required to attend all the subsequent novice practice sessions but are strongly encouraged to attend as many as you can. Novice practices generally occur on Thursday 6:00-7:30AM, Saturday 8:00-9:30AM, and Sunday 7:00-8:30AM (weather permitting).

There will be NO REFUNDS for cancellations made 14 days or less prior to the start of the session. If you register and are then unable to attend for any reason, please contact us at info@CapeFearRiverRowingClub.org so that we can find a substitute for your seat.
